Candle Care & Safety Guide
At TERMINAL B, we take pride in crafting high-quality candles designed for a refined and enjoyable experience. To ensure you get the most out of your candle while maintaining safety, we recommend following these care and usage guidelines.
Proper candle care not only enhances the burn quality but also helps create a safe environment for you and those around you. Please use our candles responsibly, and always follow these best practices for safe enjoyment.
1. Proper Candle Burning & Maintenance
Trim Your Wick:
- Before each burn, trim the wick to 1/4 inch to prevent excessive smoke, uneven burning, and soot buildup.
Burn Time Recommendations:
- Always burn your candle for at least 2 hours or until a full wax pool forms across the surface. This prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn.
- Do not burn your candle for more than 4 consecutive hours to prevent overheating.
Optimal Placement:
- Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface to prevent heat damage to underlying surfaces.
- Keep away from drafts, fans, air vents, open windows, and anything that could cause an uneven burn or excessive flickering.
2. Fire Safety & Prevention
Candles are an open flame and should be treated with the same caution as any fire source. Improper use can result in fire, injury, or property damage. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, please follow these fire safety guidelines:
A. Never Leave a Burning Candle Unattended
- Always extinguish the candle before leaving a room or going to sleep.
- Ensure the flame is completely out and the wax has solidified before handling or moving the candle.
B. Keep Away from Flammable Materials
- Place candles at least 12 inches away from curtains, paper, wood, bedding, furniture, decorations, and any other flammable objects.
- Do not use candles in cluttered areas, bookshelves, or enclosed spaces where heat can build up and ignite surrounding materials.
- Do not place a burning candle near electrical cords, appliances, or outlets that could overheat.
C. Safe Placement & Surface Protection
- Always place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface to prevent tipping and heat damage to furniture or countertops.
- Avoid placing candles directly on glass, marble, or other sensitive surfaces, as prolonged heat exposure may cause damage.
- If burning multiple candles, keep them at least 3 inches apart to prevent heat transfer and uneven melting.
D. Proper Handling of Hot Wax & Containers
- Do not touch or move a burning candle, as the container and wax may be extremely hot and can cause burns.
- Allow the candle to cool completely before handling or relighting.
- If wax spills onto furniture, clothing, or skin, allow it to cool completely before attempting removal to avoid burns.
E. Keep Away from Children & Pets
- Never leave a burning candle within reach of children, pets, or individuals who may not recognize the hazards of an open flame.
- Ensure candles are placed in locations where they cannot be accidentally knocked over by pets or children.
- Do not use candles in areas where pet fur, feathers, or dander may accumulate, as these can be flammable.
F. Proper Extinguishing & Emergency Preparedness
- Do not blow out the flame—use a candle snuffer or a wick dipper to safely extinguish the flame without splattering wax or creating excessive smoke.
- Never use water to extinguish a candle, as this can cause wax splatter and potential glass breakage.
- Ensure there is adequate ventilation to prevent smoke buildup when extinguishing the candle.
- Have a fire extinguisher, fire blanket, or sand nearby in case of emergency.
G. Avoid Overheating & Prolonged Burning
- Do not burn a candle for more than 4 consecutive hours, as prolonged heat exposure may cause the container to overheat or crack.
- Allow the candle to cool for at least two hours before relighting.
- Discontinue use when 1/2 inch of wax remains to prevent overheating of the glass container.
H. Emergency Response Plan
- If a candle catches fire, use a fire extinguisher, baking soda, or a metal lid to smother the flames.
- Do not use water to put out wax fires, as this may cause splattering or flame expansion.
- In case of an uncontrollable fire, evacuate immediately and call emergency services.
3. Candle Storage & Handling
Storage Recommendations:
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures.
- Avoid storing candles in hot environments, as this may cause softening or sweating of the wax.
Transporting Candles:
- If carrying a candle in a bag or vehicle, ensure it is securely wrapped and protected from heat exposure.
4. Discontinuing Use & Safe Disposal
When to Stop Burning:
- Discontinue use when 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the container to prevent overheating and risk of glass breakage.
- Do not attempt to burn a candle when the wax level is too low, as this may result in high flames and excessive heat buildup.
Disposal Instructions:
- Do not pour melted wax down the drain—this may cause clogging.
- Allow wax to fully cool and harden before discarding.
- Repurpose or recycle glass containers where applicable.
